Beginning of the Session

Eligibility Conditions for Under Graduate Classes

B.A./ B.Sc. (Medical, Non-Medical, Economics, I. T., Computer Science) / B.Com. / B. Com (Prof.) / BBA / Bachelor of Multimedia - Semester-I Only those students shall be eligible for admission to B.A./B.Sc. (Eco.)/BCA/B.Sc. (IT)/BBA Semester -I Class who have passed:

  • Senior Secondary Certificate Part II Examination of the Punjab School Education Board with minimum of 40% marks except for B.A.OR
  • Part I Examination of the B.A/B.Sc./B.Com./B.Sc. (Agri.) Examination (Old System) of Guru Nanak Dev University; OR
  • Any other examination recognised as equivalent to the aforesaid examinations of this University, if he/she fulfils other conditions such as combination of subjects and/ or minimum percentage of marks required for that examination.

Notes :A candidate for B.A/B.Sc. Sem. I Examination shall not opt for Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Botany, Zoology unless he/she has qualified in the same subject in the qualifying examination. A candidate for B.A/B.Sc. Sem. I Examination offering Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology without having qualified it at the qualifying examination may be allowed to qualify it in that/those subject (s) of the lower examination at the Supplementary Examination held in Sept. of the year of admission to the class or the next annual examination. If he/she fails to qualify in that/those subject (s), his/her admission to B.A./B.Sc. Sem. I class shall stand automatically cancelled and he/she shall have no claim, whatsoever. A candidate shall opt for the same elective subjects in Sem. I to VI of B.A/B.Sc.
The students who pass Senior Secondary Part-II Examination with compartment/compartments in a subject/subjects will be admitted in the degree classes only after the rules and regulations are laid down by GND University for the current session.


General Instructions for the courses under Semester System

Courses having two semester duration :

  • There shall be no condition for promoting a student from first semester to second semester.
  • In case a student fails to pass all the courses/papers within a period of two semesters (One Year), he/she shall be given two consecutive semesters (one year) more to pass.

Courses having four semester duration :

  • There shall be no condition for promoting a student from first semester to second semester.
  • However the student shall be promoted to the third semester only if he/she has passed at least 50% course / papers  of the first two semesters.
  • There shall be no condition for promoting a student from third semester to fourth semester.
  • In case a student fails to pass all the courses/papers within a period of four semesters (Two Years), he/she shall be given four consecutive semesters (Two Years) more to pass.

Courses having six semester duration :

  • There shall be no condition for promoting a student from first semester to second semester.
  • However the student shall be promoted to the third semester only if he/she has passed at least 50% course/papers  of the first two semesters.
  • There shall be no condition for promoting a student from third semester to fourth semester.
  • However a student shall be promoted to fifth semester only if he/she has passed at least 50% course/papers  of the first four semesters.
  • The student shall be promoted to sixth semester only if he/she has passed all the papers of the first semester. After a period of six semesters the     
  • student shall be given a period of two consecutive years to pass.


Courses having eight semester duration :

  • The student shall be promoted to seventh semester only if he/she has passed all the papers of first two semesters.
  • The student shall be promoted to eighth semester only if he/she has passed all the papers of first three semesters.
